Concept Note

The present day society, at a rudimentary level, is one of numerous thought processes working in tandem. This seems to reinforce the idea that we are living in a world which has moved away considerably from its earlier stages. If we were happy with the modern world, we have also embraced the unconventionality and uncertainty of the post-modern world. But human adaptability does not muzzle the fact that modern cannot be called so unless it is postmodern. And if modern is always ‘after something,’ then modernity is constant. Therefore, in the present times, man struggles with the tradition of each age being in combat with the one it succeeds. The struggles lead to further questions which make transition interrogate itself. Thus, Postmodernism becomes the Holy Grail that charts ‘living’ in the present world through speculations, deliberations and negotiations.

Interpersonal relationships and the concept of solidarity become contested keeping in view the scattered selves in the current times. But the concept of society cannot be dispensed with even in the face of hyper-reality, the end of history and the endless traps of language. Hence, the conference plans to map our dialogues with the intersections that twenty-first century society offers to individuals. One such intersection is man's ongoing clash with the severely disruptive COVID-19. A pandemic that makes home and non-home interchangeable echoes the postmodern conflict and fusion of art and non-art. This conference intends to investigate whether the (re-)construction of human society is in alignment with historical events. Considering the fact that the ‘post-COVID’ scenario is going to usher in alterity, it proposes to make an incursion into the so called 'grand truths' which postmodernism claims to escape from, yet finds itself entangled in. Mapping the changing landscape of the Post-modern world is essential as man will not be talked out of finding meaning within meaninglessness.

When humankind is marked by myriad disruptive tendencies, we must delineate the strands that run through the postmodern anarchy of ideas in order to make sense of the structural bonding that defines a society. Even as Jean Francois Lyotard renders truth redundant with his emphasis on ‘the death of grand narratives,’ this conference aims to understand man's predicament of being the perceived and the perceiver at the same time.

 Guidelines for Authors – Procedure for Submission of Abstract and Full Paper

1. Scholarly, unpublished and well-researched articles leading to new dimensions in the field of postmodern research are invited from undergraduate & postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members of the various departments as well as interested academicians.
2. An abstract of not less than 200 words should be submitted on or before 7th February 2022. Submissions made after the deadline will not be considered.
3. The abstract should be submitted as a single Microsoft Word Document, with Title of the Paper, followed by the name, designation and contact details of the author/authors. The word file should be sent to aifestevents@gmail.com as an email file attachment. After scrutiny, you will be informed about the acceptance or rejection of your abstract within 48 hours of submission.
4. The full paper should be between 1500 and 3000 words. Full papers may be submitted after the conference, incorporating the suggestions and recommendations made during the paper presentation. The last date for submitting full papers for publication shall be 20th February 2022.
5. MLA 8th Edition should be strictly followed.
6. All selected papers will be published by Aifest in the form of conference proceedings with ISBN in collaboration with our US Publishing Partner after the conference. All contributors will be eligible for a free electronic copy of the conference proceedings (with US Electronic ISBN). Print copies may or may not be brought out depending on the demand for the same and the individual authors will have to purchase copies (if required) from the online stores.
7. Each paper will be checked using Turnitin Anti-Plagiarism Software. Any paper that exceeds the permissible limit of 15 % similarity will be rejected.
8. In case of joint papers, all the participants will have to register separately as separate certificates would be issued to respective individuals.

An Online Mental and Physical Health and Wellness Course Exclusively for Women

In continuation of the theme of International Women’s Day 2021, and as part of AIFEST’s initiative to highlight and foreground the aspirations of the women folk, a special Mental and Physical Health and Wellness Course titled Mindfulness- 2021 is being organized exclusively for women. The course will be a continuous wellness programme conducted daily that will assist you through your life’s journey. The programme will start on 1st April 2021. There will be a monthly course fee of Rs 500 that has to be paid directly to the course coordinator at the beginning of each month. Since this is a wellness programme with special attention to Yoga, meditation and mixed Cardio exercises, there is no fixed end date. Participants can attend the course as long as they wish, new members can join in between, and you can opt out of the course any time you choose. Again, the focus will be on mental and physical wellness; this is not a certificate course for the sake of attending. Here you will be practising whatever you learn under the able guidance and supervision of the course coordinator. While learning specific exercises, individual attention will be given to each participant paying special attention to physical and mental requirements, health issues, problems with balancing work and family life, and overall the need to better take care of the body and mind. The course will be holistic in nature, and specific exercises and diets will be suggested for specific requirements. Special counselling or sharing sessions can be arranged if a participant feels the need for the same.

The course will officially start on 1st April 2021. Participants can attend the daily sessions as long as they wish. It will be continuous course with no holidays and no layoffs. Participants can attend the course as long as they wish, new members can join in between, and you can opt out of the course any time you choose.

Course Timing

Participants will have the option to choose the morning session or evening session. Considering the requests from working women, the course timings have been arranged accordingly. The morning session will be from 7 am to 8 am and the evening session will be from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm. Each participant can attend one session per day.

Course Fee

There will be a monthly course fee of Rs 500 that has to be paid directly to the course coordinator at the beginning of each month. If you won’t be able to attend for a certain duration, it should be intimated beforehand to the course coordinator and the monthly fee can be adjusted accordingly. Please note, this is not a certificate course; no certificate will be provided at any time. The improvement in your health shall be your certificate.

Medium for the Course

The entire course will be conducted online using Zoom/ Google Meet as per convenience. Links to join will be provided prior to each session, and only registered participants will be allowed to join. This course is only for women, and hence there won’t be male instructors or participants. Registered participants will be divided into batches of 30 each and will be added to respective whatsapp groups. An expert female course instructor will be assigned to each batch. Request for change of batch will not be entertained.

Programme to Mentor and Nurture Young Writers

Mentoring Young Authors

After the highly informative AIFEST Mega Lecture Series and the resounding success of the AIFEST International Poetry Competition, we wish to draw your attention to a novel initiative aimed at mentoring and nurturing Young Writers. Following the path shown by the National Educational Policy 2020, which emphasized empowering young minds & creating a learning ecosystem that can nurture young learners for future leadership roles, a national scheme for mentoring young authors has been launched under the visionary national level flagship programme of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat. The scheme envisions to cultivate modern ambassadors of Indian literature as the country heads towards 75 years of independence. will help not only develop a stream of writers who can write on a spectrum of subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture and knowledge, but also provide a window to the aspiring youth to articulate themselves in their mother tongue and represent India at an international level. This programme will be in tune with the Honorable Prime Minister's vision of Global Citizen and to establish India as a Vishwa Guru.

The goal is to create a pool of authors in 22 Indian languages who are ready to express themselves and project India on any international platform. The young authors so mentored shall become proficient in writing in various genres like fiction, non-fiction, travelogues, memoirs, drama, poetry and so on.

Details

A total of 10 young authors from each of 22 official Indian languages + 1 English Language will be selected.

230 (23 x10) + 20 nominated.

Total = 250 young authors

It will be carried out in 2 phases as mentioned below:

Phase I – Training (6 months)

The National Book Trust, India will organise a Two-Week Writers’ Online Programme for the selected candidates for the first three months.

During this period, the young authors will be trained by two eminent authors/mentors from NBT’s panel of accomplished authors and writers, for each language groups.

PHASE II – Promotion (6 months)

The young authors will get to expand their understanding and hone their skills through interaction at various international events such as Literary Festivals, Book Fairs, Virtual Book Fair, Cultural Exchange Programmes, etc.

Selected child authors will also be paid annual scholarship

A book or a series of books written by the young authors will be published by NBT, India as the outcome of the mentorship programme.

Efforts will be made to get the selected books translated into UN and other international languages and promote the same through Indian embassies in collaboration with NBT.

The books thus published will be translated into other Indian languages ensuring the exchange of culture and literature between different states of India and thereby promoting Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.

AIFEST YouTube Channel could have made a huge impact by uploading video submissions individually. That was easier for us, and that was what many of us would have liked; we could have shared our own "personal" videos with our friends, and then likes and comments and shares. The Channel would benefit immensely too. But then, what is Poetry without ears? What is literature without audience? Reading poetry in the comfort of my private space feels good sometimes; but these days, don't we yearn to go out, to meet, greet and mingle? When my poem is sandwiched between 2 other poems, maybe, my poem will feel a little irritated, a little nauseated, a little claustrophobic. But poetry can't be like us, right? It would enjoy the company of other poems, surely!

The first videos we posted were those submitted by our little kids from schools. Encourage them, enjoy their creativity, and instill the confidence and enthusiasm to mature into better and greater poets in times to come. There is no doubt that our world needs more and more poets, especially in these changing times.

To make optimum use of the Corona forced break from academic work, and to make learning fun, All India Forum for English Students, Scholars and Trainers (AIFEST) wishes to organize different literary and artistic competitions in the coming days. As a first step in this initiative, we are organizing a Poetry Competition for lovers of literature and poetry. The participants shall be divided into three categories: Middle School (Classes V to VIII), High School (Classes IX to XII), and a third category for everyone else. Themes for poetry shall be different for different categories, as mentioned below. We are truly delighted and excited to welcome you wholeheartedly to participate in the event, have fun, and win exciting prizes.

Instructions for Participants

1.       Participation is open to all, irrespective of age, nationality or gender.

2.       The submitted poem must be in English (British English preferred). There is no word limit, upper or lower.

3.       The poem must be submitted as an MS Word document attached to the Google form. In the Word document don’t mention any personal details; just the poem with its title in Times New Roman, font size 12. Preferably avoid bordering, fancy fonts and other decorations.

4.       Give the name of the participant as the name of the document.

5.       Students belonging to Categories 1 and 2 must upload the photo/scanned image of the Identity Card issued by your school. If you don’t have an id card, you may submit any other proof of identity.

6.       Participants belonging to Category 3 can upload their institutional id card. If you aren’t currently affiliated to any institution, or if you don’t have an id card, you may submit any other proof of identity.

7.       A participant can submit only one poem based on the themes suggested for your category. You can choose one among the 2 themes.

8.       The poem must be original; it must not be copied from elsewhere, or submitted for publication elsewhere. If the poem is found to be plagiarized or published before, it will be rejected and the participant will be blacklisted.

ü  The poem typed in a word document, with title. Make sure that your name or any other personal detail is not mentioned inside the document.

ü  Give your name as the name of the document.

ü  Your id card in image/pdf format

 

Important Dates

Ø  Deadline for submission of poems: 15^th November 2020

Ø  Announcement of results: 20^th November 2020

Ø  Commencement of uploading selected recitations on YouTube: 30^th November 2020

Ø  Publishing the selected poems as an eBook: 25^th December 2020

 

How to Submit

Click on the link below and fill the Google form. Upload your poem as a word document and your id card as an image/pdf file. Submit the form.

Perks

·         All the participants would be given Lifetime Membership of AIFEST.

·         Authors of poems that secure an A grade will be given Certificates of Merit.

·         Selected poems will be published as an e-anthology with ISBN number.

·       The authors of selected poems will be offered an opportunity to submit recorded video recitation of their poems, and the selected recitations will be posted on our official YouTube channel.
